Sagittal Balance of spine and pelvis is becoming one of the most relevant topic in order to understand spine diseases mechanisms.
Balance parameters are well described but their use in routine clinics remains demanding due to the complexity of their interactions.
The purpose of this Forum, organised by IGASS and its Faculty is to provide basic analysis concepts before sharing with you our practical experience.
Our offer to practice with database and analyze normal and pathological cases with the support of computerized analyses, will be the basis for our discussions and enable us to understand the mechanism of balance and its implication in treatment strategy.
We are very pleased to invite you to our first IGASS Forum on Sagittal Balance in Lyon and hoping to see you there !

More than 15 cases of deformities in young children have been discussed by the participating surgeons. It has been observed that there were different ideas for the best treatment method reflecting a wide variety of experiences of surgeons from different areas.
The intense 1-day meeting has been adjourned late afternoon and the participants seemed to be very pleased of the hot and deep debates and discussions as well as the didactic lectures done during the whole day.

IGASS Forum in Jordan “Deformity, Degenerative and Trauma” Jordan Valley Marriott Resort, Dead Sea – Jordan
October 25, 2008
The Forum was well attended by a mixture of local spinal orthopaedic & neurosurgeons as well as senior residents. Surgeons from nearby countries were also represented from Egypt, Tunisia, Syria, Saudi Arabia, and Abu-Dhabi.
The main focus of the meeting was on recent advances in the field as well as hands-on workshops & discussion of problem cases which was the joy of the participants.
Prof. Shannak chaired a round-table discussion with the IGASS faculty concerning the establishment of modern spinal centre in Jordan. It was agreed by all that such centre will enhance the quality of spinal surgery in Jordan & therefore recommend the establishment of such centre.
Hands-on workshops on various new technological advances were held the second day, courtesy of the industry & were appreciated mostly by the junior surgeons. IGASS faculty members were the tutors of the workshops.
Feed back showed appreciation of the activities especially problem discussions of cases presented by the local surgeons. Many surgeons showed enthusiasm of enrolling in the IGASS group & application to the fellowship schemes.
Future meeting of this nature is welcomed by all attendees.

2nd IGASS Forum “Aging Spine and Adjacent Level after Surgery” Hotel Intercontinental Geneva May 25, 2008
The first IGASS forum outside Europe was held at the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre in New Delhi in February 2008 in cooperation with the Delhi Spine Society.
Main topics were "Spinal Deformity" and "Minimal Invasive Techniques in Spinal Surgery".
IGASS was represented by Prof. Norbert Passuti from France and Prof. Ralf Gahr from Germany.
The meeting was well attended by an inspiring mixture of experienced spine surgeons and young residents.
According to IGASS philosophy the main focus of the meeting was on hands-on workshops and discussion of case reports.
After the IGASS meeting Prof. Norbert Passuti and Prof. Ralf Gahr attended the annual ISSICON meeting followed by another meeting (with live surgery) on minimal invasive surgery in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Both would like to thank all colleagues from India and Sri Lanka for their support and their hospitality, and also thank IGASS for making this trip possible.
We shall definitely carry on with IGASS activities outside Europe as this is the best and fastest way to spread knowledge on spinal surgery.
After the meetings in India and Sri Lanka we received numerous requests for IGASS fellowships, which is showing well the growing need for international educational programs.
